Vibrations of Sound
Lesson plan (30-60 min) It's a great plan, but the internal link to Sound Waves Web Site is broken. Objective: Students will learn what sound waves look like as they produce high and low sounds, loud and soft sounds, and noise using a website on sound waves. They will explore how vibrations produce sound through hands-on exploration using rulers, cups, and rubber bands. They will then see visual representation of sound waves using Audacity recording software. A better PBS "Sound Vibrations" lesson has all the links you will need. You may even use that lesson! Cool Links from the PBS lesson include Tuning Fork in Water - visualizing vibrations Vibration and Pitch - What is Sound? Pitch: Straw Kazoo - here's the PDF |
